See Royal and Historic Gloves and Shoes by W.B.Redfern, published by Methuen, 1904, p.56. They are described as being part of the collection of W. Cole Plowright and dated to the 17th century. However, the dating in this book is not particularly accurate.
These gloves together with 23384, 23385, 23386, 23394 all fall in the same group stylistically with plain, short, brown coloured hand sections and short but lavishly embroidered gauntlets in gold and silver, large sequins, good bobbin lace, worked on crude linen with rather fine satin and separately applied. The elaborate, dense style of embroidery is synonymous with embroidery found in the first half of the seventeenth century whereas the shorter length suggests a transitional change leading to the wrist-length gloves of the late 17th-early 18th century. These gloves were probably made between 1650 and 1670.
